Python & Automation
The Python & Automation online internship at Indrobeams is a remote, milestone-based program. Students build real deliverables covering Python 3.11+, Argparse & Click, BeautifulSoup & Playwright, complete projects over 4, 8, or 12 weeks, receive human mentor code reviews, and earn a QR-verifiable certificate for ₹149 upon review approval with zero upfront tuition fees.
Who this internship is for
- Computer Science, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering students seeking practical Python programming proficiency.
- Junior developers wanting to move beyond basic syntax tutorials into writing production-grade scripts with logging and error handling.
- Professionals who want to automate manual spreadsheets, data collection, and repetitive administrative tasks.
Tools & Tech Stack
Industry-standard developer tooling used across milestone tasks:
What you will build week by week
CLI Utility with File I/O & Structured Logging
Build a modular command-line tool using Python argparse or click. Include robust input validation, JSON/CSV file processing, and rotating structured logs.
- Clean CLI flag parser with --help documentation, required arguments, and optional flags.
- Exception handling for missing files, corrupted JSON payloads, and invalid file permissions.
- Structured log output to both console (colorized) and rotating file records with ISO timestamps.
Automated Web Scraper with Rate Limiting & User-Agents
Develop a resilient web crawler using BeautifulSoup or Playwright to extract structured data from a multi-page directory with polite crawling etiquette.
- Exponential backoff retry logic, custom User-Agent headers, and respect for robots.txt delay rules.
- Robust HTML parsing handling missing tags, dynamic classes, and pagination loops.
- Clean data export to both CSV and an indexed SQLite database with deduplication.
Asynchronous Background Worker & Webhook Consumer
Build a Python background service that polls a task queue or receives HTTP webhooks, processes jobs concurrently with Asyncio, and records audit logs.
- Lightweight webhook listener built with FastAPI or an async worker queue processing tasks concurrently.
- Concurrency safety, timeout protections, and graceful shutdown on SIGINT/SIGTERM.
- Database audit table logging processing duration, success status, and error stack traces.
Automated Reporting Pipeline with Email Notifications
Create a scheduled script that aggregates daily metrics from a public API, compiles an Excel/PDF summary, and sends an automated email with attachments.
- Data aggregation from at least one external REST API with proper authorization header handling.
- Automated formatting of an Excel workbook using openpyxl with auto-fitted columns and headers.
- (Optional stretch milestone): Containerizing the pipeline into a lightweight Docker image.
Example projects you will ship to GitHub
Rather than generic tutorial clones, your portfolio will showcase complete, production-ready software systems:
Headless E-Commerce Competitor Price Tracker
An automated script monitoring price fluctuations across 500 online product listings with automated alerts on discount thresholds.
Applicant Resume Parsing & Validation Pipeline
A batch CLI processor extracting candidate contact info, technical skills, and experience years from directories of PDF resumes.
Automated Daily Financial Summary Emailer
A serverless Python script fetching exchange rates and market indices, generating charts, and emailing an executive PDF briefing.
How human code reviews work
We don't use automated quizzes. Every milestone submission is inspected by human mentors who provide line-by-line engineering feedback:

Frequently Asked Questions: Python Automation
Is Python 3.10 or 3.11 required, or can I use Python 3.8?+
We recommend Python 3.10+ because tasks utilize modern type union syntax (`str | None`) and match-case statements. However, any Python 3.8+ version that executes your code cleanly is acceptable.
How do evaluators test my web scraper without getting IP blocked?+
Task briefs specify mock test endpoints (such as httpbin.org or sandbox scraping pages) that allow safe testing. Evaluators run your scraper against these sandboxes and verify that your backoff delays work.
Can I use external libraries like Scrapy instead of BeautifulSoup?+
Yes. Scrapy, Playwright, Selenium, and BeautifulSoup are all accepted. You must include a `requirements.txt` or `pyproject.toml` file so evaluators can install dependencies in an isolated virtualenv.
What is the difference between this track and the Data Analytics track?+
Data Analytics emphasizes SQL, exploratory statistical analysis, and BI dashboards for business insights. Python Automation emphasizes software engineering: building CLI tools, web crawlers, background workers, and automation scripts.
Do I need to host the background worker on a cloud server?+
Local execution with recorded demo logs is acceptable for passing evaluation. If you choose to deploy your script to a free cloud service like Render, Railway, or Fly.io, mentors will award extra commendations.
What happens if a target website changes its HTML layout?+
A key lesson in automation engineering is building defensive scrapers. The milestone requires defensive selectors and clear error logging so scripts fail gracefully with informative warnings instead of unhandled exceptions.

Students in Python Automation often explore these related programs:
Master modern frontend and backend development. Build responsive interfaces, architect RESTful CRUD APIs, connect relational databases, and deploy a full-featured capstone application.
Transform raw corporate datasets into strategic business decisions. Perform data wrangling, run exploratory SQL queries, create visual metric dashboards in PowerBI/Tableau/Streamlit, and present findings.
